I don't usually tell you much about my life, but this last week....well...You will never believe my last week!!...No...really!! I care for my baby boy 24/7 (ok..he's 17...but always my baby!), but last week I worked 3 days outside the house, substitute teaching to keep certified in my city to be able to teach next year(You have to work at least 3 days each school year...I just did them all in ONE WEEK...I would teach every day if I could...LOVE IT, but a challenge with my present life!!)...1st crazy thing! Then came Saturday...catching up on everything I didn't get to do during the week and my daughter's birthday...2nd crazy thing!! Sunday I started to notice shadows in the bottom corner of my right eye, and by Sunday evening, the shadows had become bigger and darker. By Monday morning, Memorial Day here in the states, the dark shadows had stretched to the center of my vision and had become black/ dark dark red! I am thankful for the internet, by googling and reading, I was 99% sure that I had a retinal tear...and needed to see a doctor ASAP...only thing...Memorial Day...no office hours, no return calls...needed to get to an Emergency Room. Retinal tears can cause blindness if not treated with speed! I drove myself to an ER about 1/2 hour away (while my husband stayed with Noah), whose hospital had an eye center. FIVE hours later, discovered that I did indeed have a retinal tear...a HUGE one, and laser work in their office at the hospital would not work...I needed surgery. I got up at 4am on Tuesday to get to the hospital by 6 for surgery at 7:30...where, because I was an "add on"...an emergency and not "scheduled" operation...an operating room was not available for my surgery...so I waited until 11am. The doctor was a retinal specialist such an amazing doctor...I was in good hands, but won't even tell you what he did to my eye to repair the tear...makes me queazy thinking about it...but the surgery went well!! I saw the doctor yesterday, vision in that eye is still blurry, but will get better as the fluid returns to my eye replacing the bubble of air that was placed in it...technology is AMAZING!!! OK...that was my 3rd and craziest thing!! I am resting and taking it a bit easy, my husband is cooking for me...my eye is "achey"...not painful, but am so incredibly thankful for being directed to a hospital AND doctor that took such great care of my eye...SO THANKFUL!!! AND...knowledge is power...so my hope is sharing my experience might help someone else!!
EDITED*** With Lisa's question...How did it happen? Really quick...Tears can happen with a knock or hit...like when playing rugby. Tears can also happen as we get older, but as with me, if you are nearsighted(I wore glasses since I was 8yrs old, but had Lasik surgery over 10 years ago), your chances of a tear increase by a much greater percentage by just being nearsighted. So...older and nearsighted...I had two strikes against me. But... It's nothing I did, it just happened.
I am back in my craft room...everything you see on my blog for a while will be made with one eye...so if things are a bit off, you'll know why:)!!
There will be a HUGE event sponsored by Simon Says Stamp tomorrow...and although I am late, I WILL be a part, I hope you will check back tomorrow...it will BE FUN!!!!!
This card was made with some of the stamps from the Simon Says Stamp Summer Release...this release ROCKS!!!!....
I used a color that HGTV says is a 2013 summer color...Coral! Used Stampin Up Calypso Coral paper and marker. The flowers are from Simon Says Stamp Flower Friend and Petal Pieces stamp sets. I stamped, colored and cut out...kind of bending the petals for dimension -+ popping them up. I used a gingham cover the card from Impression Obsession with versamark and leaves from a My Favorite Things die set. Hope I will see you tomorrow...it's going to be SO MUCH FUN!!!! Thanks for visiting me today!! Hugs!! Lisa

I hope your eye gets well soon!! The card is gorgeous as always and you have great taste in colour.
ReplyDeleteOh, my! God was certainly with you. Computers can be such blessings when they are not making us tear out our hair! I'm so thankful that you got to where you needed to be and got treatment. Even with one eye, your cards are a joy to see! Take care. Keep those cards coming! Yours is the first blog in my list of favorites.
ReplyDeleteWow...what an experience for you. I am so glad you researched and followed through on medical care!
ReplyDeleteAs always your card is breathtaking!
What a week as if you don't have enough stress. So glad that your treatment went okay. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteOh Lisa, what a time of it you've had! I'm so glad your eye is going to be okay, please rest and take good care of yourself! I LOVE your coral card, what a gorgoeus colour showcased beautifully!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to be seen and that the surgery went well. Last week must've been "crazy" week. My friend had me take her to the dr's office b/c she kept seeing like a curtain over her eye. The drs thought it could be a retinal tear. In her case, it wasn't. She actually watched a blood clot go down from her brain, behind her eye, and had 2 mini strokes! And she's only 37!
ReplyDeleteI agree--last week was CRAZY!
So sorry to hear about your eye but glad that you got help in time. One eye or not, your card is stupendous.
ReplyDeleteThank the Lord you are okay! I've never heard of that before. Beautiful card, I love that coral color and your gingham.
ReplyDeleteThat had to be a scary experience, but I'm glad you're OK and your vision was restored! Your card is just stunning in that beautiful coral color! Take care!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Lisa. I am so thankful that you are okay and that you got great medical care. Make sure that you are not over doing it with your eye. Love your card and more importantly sending you lots of healing prayers!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a speedy and full recovery with your eye.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Thankfully, you were fairly near a hospital with a good ophthalmic unit, and it sounds like you will make a full and good recovery. Whew! I'll put you on my prayer list that all good things happen with your eye. And your card is lovely. Really pretty colors and love those flowers. Bev
ReplyDeleteThis card is fabulous. I can't believe the last week you have had. Thank goodness about your eye--that you caught it in time. I'll bet that you take care of everyone else first and yourself last--you just seem like that kind of person--and I am so glad that it wasn't too late.
ReplyDeleteMy mom had a retinal tear so as I read I guessed the issue. SO thankful you had a top notch surgeon to take care of you and hopefully a good "nurse" at home ;) I agree, yeah for modern technology!! Hope clear vision returns quickly ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty card Lisa, very 'you'. You are a great card maker even with one eye, but I really hope your eye continues to heal well.
ReplyDeletetake care of yourself. Thanks for sharing so that maybe someone else can benefit from your experience. Scary.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you got your eye problem checked out when you did Lisa!!!Take care and rest up, hope you have a speedy recovery :) Cathy x
ReplyDeleteWOW....talk about a scare and to have surgery without any time to even plan...I am so sorry, but also very happy to know that you figured out what this was and that you saved your sight.
ReplyDeleteDo you know how this happened? I didn't see anything in your post, but it's even more scary to think it can happen all on it's one!! Yikes!!
Take care and rest and thanks so much for sharing your gorgeous card and your health care story. It may help someone else done the road!!
Hugs,
Lisa
My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I am so glad you were able to figure it out and deal with it in time. I know you have so much on your plate, but do try to take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteOh Lisa, I've been trying to get some time together to write to you!!! I'm so sorry to hear your news but so thankful you got on top of it straight away.... Anything to do with eyes makes me queasy so thanks for sparing us with the details :0) Lol.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you are back to crafting so soon... Love you card by the way but remember to rest those all important eyes :0)
Hugs Jenny x
